Free remove.bg Alternative: what it does
remove.bg is moving its background remover into Canva (its own FAQ says so; the standalone site is reported to close on 1 December 2026). If you just want a quick, free cut-out without a design account, use this one: drop a photo, get a transparent PNG at the photo’s full resolution, or put it on white, a colour or a blur. Is remove.bg shutting down?
remove.bg’s FAQ says it is migrating its background removal into the Canva platform, and news reports (for example AlternativeTo, September 2026) say the standalone remove.bg website closes on 1 December 2026, with the API moving to Leonardo. Is this really free at full resolution?
Yes. The AI runs on your own device, so a full-size result costs us nothing to make. There are no credits, no paid HD download and no watermark.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The photo is processed in your browser and never leaves your device. The only download is the AI model itself, once, from this website.
Is the quality as good as remove.bg?
It depends on the photo. The full model (BiRefNet) keeps fine detail such as hair and fur and cleans the old background colour out of the edges. Try a few of your own photos: it is free, and nothing is uploaded.
Is there an API or a plugin?
No. This is a web page that works in any modern browser on a phone or computer. There is nothing to install and no account.
