Not sent to our servers

Your browser asks the domain registries and the sites listed directly. The name never passes through our servers, or anyone else’s.

Your idea stays yours

No account, no search history on our side. We can’t see, keep or sell names we never receive.

You’re in control

Pick any registrar: the buttons only open your name there. Nothing is saved, in this browser or anywhere else.

Check it yourself: open your browser’s developer tools (Network tab) and run a search. The requests go to the domain registries, Cloudflare DNS, GitHub, GitLab and Bluesky, and none to prepmypost.com. Privacy controls

Username Checker: what it does

Type the username you want and this checker asks GitHub, GitLab and Bluesky straight away whether it is free, using each site’s public API. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, YouTube, LinkedIn, Threads, Pinterest, Reddit and Twitch block automatic checks, so they get one-click buttons that open the profile address in your own browser: if the page shows nobody, the name is free. Underneath, the same name is checked as a domain on .com and nine other endings, so you can claim a matching website at the same time. Spaces and symbols are removed, because most platforms only allow letters and numbers in a username. The checks run from your browser, not through our servers, and nothing is stored.

How to use it

  1. Type the username you want. Spaces and symbols are removed, because most platforms only allow letters and numbers.
  2. Click “Check”. Each domain ending is looked up at its registry, and the username is checked on GitHub, GitLab and Bluesky.
  3. If the .com is taken, look at the suggested variations, and tick “More endings” for .dev, .xyz, .uk, .pk and more.
  4. Open Instagram, TikTok, X and the other buttons to check those platforms yourself, then register your domain at the registrar you prefer.

Tips

  • Lower-case letters and numbers work on every platform. Underscores and dots are allowed on some but not all, so avoid them if you want one name everywhere.
  • Instagram allows up to 30 characters, TikTok 24 and X only 15. If you want the same handle everywhere, keep it to 15 or fewer.
  • A deleted account’s username can stay blocked for a while, even if the profile page shows nothing.
  • Inactive accounts usually can’t be claimed: platforms rarely release a username just because it isn’t used.
  • Claim your username on the platforms you will use next year too, not only the ones you use today.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check if a username is taken?

Type it above. GitHub, GitLab and Bluesky are checked automatically. For Instagram, TikTok, X and the others, tap the button: the profile page opens, and if no account shows, the username is free.

Why isn’t Instagram checked automatically?

Instagram, TikTok, X and most big platforms block automated lookups and treat them as scraping. Opening the profile in your own browser is the reliable, rule-abiding way to check.

The profile page is empty but the app says the username is taken. Why?

Recently deleted or banned accounts keep their username for a while, and some names are reserved by the platform. Try a variation.

Can I see who owns a username?

No. This tool only tells you whether a name is free, so you can choose one. It doesn’t look up people or their other accounts.

Is the username I type saved?

No. It is sent from your browser directly to the sites being checked, never to our servers, and nothing is stored.
