Crop Image: what it does
Drop a photo, drag the frame over the part you want and download it at full resolution. Lock an aspect ratio for the place you’re posting (1:1 for a profile photo, 4:5 for an Instagram post, 9:16 for a Story, 16:9 for YouTube or a website banner, 3:2 for prints), or crop freely. Type exact pixel sizes when a form or a website asks for them. Rotate by 90° and flip a mirrored selfie in the same step. The circle option makes a round PNG with a transparent background, ready for profile pictures and team pages. Cropping happens in your browser at the photo’s full resolution: nothing is uploaded, nothing is compressed behind your back, and there is no watermark.
How to use it
- Drop a photo into the box, paste it, or tap to choose one from your phone.
- Pick an aspect ratio (or Free, or Circle) and drag the frame over the part you want to keep. Pull the handles to resize it.
- Type exact pixel sizes if you need them, and rotate or flip the photo if it’s sideways or mirrored.
- Choose JPG, PNG or WebP and click Download. The crop is saved at full resolution.
Tips
- Use the rule of thirds: place eyes or the main subject on one of the grid lines inside the frame, not dead centre.
- Hold Shift and use the arrow keys to nudge the frame 10 px at a time after clicking it.
- Cropping for several platforms at once? The image resizer makes every social media size from one photo in a single ZIP.
- For a round profile picture with a clean background, try the profile picture maker: it removes the background too.
- Crop before compressing: fewer pixels means a smaller file at the same quality.
Frequently asked questions
Does cropping reduce the quality of my photo?
No. The crop is cut from the full-resolution image, so the pixels you keep are untouched. JPG output is saved at 92% quality; choose PNG for a lossless file.
How do I crop an image to a circle?
Choose “Circle”, move and size the frame, and download. The result is a square PNG with everything outside the circle transparent.
Can I crop to an exact size in pixels?
Yes. Type the width and height under “Crop size (px)”. With a ratio locked, typing one number sets the other.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The photo is cropped by your browser on your device. Nothing is sent to our servers.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. Drag the frame with your finger, and pull the round handles to resize it.
