Glitch Effect: what it does
Make a photo look like a broken digital signal. The glitch effect splits the red and blue channels apart, cuts the picture into horizontal slices and shifts them sideways (some with a colour tint), and adds scanlines. Amount sets how strong the colour split and the shifts are, Slices how many bands are cut, and “Shuffle the pattern” makes a new random arrangement until you like it. The effect is applied at full resolution in your browser, so your photo is never uploaded.
How to use it
- Drop a photo into the box, paste it with Ctrl+V, or tap to choose one from your phone.
- See the effect straight away. The thumbnails show every other effect on your photo too.
- Adjust the settings, and hold “Hold to compare” to see the original.
- Download at full resolution as JPG, PNG or WebP.
Tips
- Shuffle a few times: each pattern is different, and the right one usually makes the face or the subject still readable.
- Glitch art looks strongest on photos with bold shapes and contrast, such as portraits on a plain background.
- Use it for posters, album covers and story backgrounds; pair it with bold text in the post maker.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add a glitch effect to a photo?
Add the photo, adjust Amount, Slices and Scanlines, click “Shuffle the pattern” until you like the result, and download.
Can I get the same glitch again?
Yes, as long as you don’t shuffle: the pattern is fixed until you click Shuffle, so the download matches the preview exactly.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The glitch is created in your browser on your own device.
