Blur Image: what it does
Blur a whole photo, for example to make a soft background for text, a slide or a phone wallpaper, or blur only part of it: choose “Selected areas” and drag over the parts to hide. The strength slider goes from a gentle soften to a blur so strong that only colours are left. The blur is smooth rather than blocky, and it is applied at your photo’s full resolution. Your image is processed in your browser and never uploaded, and the saved file carries no location or camera data.
How to use it
- Drop a photo into the box, paste it with Ctrl+V, or tap to choose one from your phone.
- See the effect straight away. The thumbnails show every other effect on your photo too.
- Adjust the settings, and hold “Hold to compare” to see the original.
- Download at full resolution as JPG, PNG or WebP.
Tips
- For a background behind text, a strong blur (70 or more) keeps the colours of the photo but removes distracting detail.
- To keep a person sharp and blur everything behind them, use the background blur tool instead: it finds the subject with AI.
- To hide a face or a number plate, use “Selected areas” with a strong blur, or pixelate or a black bar for anything sensitive.
- Several areas can be blurred at once: drag a new box for each one.
Frequently asked questions
How do I blur part of an image?
Add your photo, choose “Selected areas” under the effects, then drag over each part you want blurred. Drag a box to move it, use its corner to resize it, and × to remove it. Everything outside the boxes stays sharp.
Can a blurred area be un-blurred?
A strong blur removes the detail for good, because it isn’t stored in the saved file. A light blur can leave a face or large text recognisable, so for private details use a strong blur, pixelation or a black bar.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The blur is calculated by your browser on your device, and the file is saved straight from it. Nothing is sent to our servers.
