Tax Invoice Generator (VAT / GST): what it does

A tax invoice is an invoice that shows the tax you charged, so your client can claim it back. This generator puts the details that tax invoices usually need in the right places: the words “Tax invoice”, your tax registration number (VAT No., TRN, GSTIN…), the client’s number when they have one, the date, a unique invoice number, each item, the subtotal, the tax rate and amount, and the total. It works out the tax for you and writes the total in words. Everything runs in your browser, so your figures are never uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Fill in your business and your client. Add a logo if you like: it is read by your browser, not uploaded.
  2. Choose the document type, number, dates and currency, then add your line items, any discount and the tax rate. Totals update as you type.
  3. Open “Payment details, terms and notes” to add your bank details and terms, and pick an accent colour and font.
  4. Click “Download PDF” and choose “Save as PDF” in the print window. Your details are kept in this browser for the next invoice.

Tips

  • Type the name of your tax (VAT, GST, Sales tax) and its rate; the tax line reads, for example, “VAT @ 5%”.
  • Change the tax-number label to what your tax office calls it: VAT No. (UK/EU), TRN (UAE), GSTIN (India), ABN (Australia), NTN or STRN (Pakistan).
  • Add the client’s tax number for business clients: many countries require it on invoices between registered businesses.
  • Give a discount before tax: the tool takes it off the subtotal and charges tax on what is left.
  • Rules differ by country and change over time. Check your tax authority’s list of what a tax invoice must show; this tool gives you the fields, not tax advice.

Frequently asked questions

What makes an invoice a “tax invoice”?

It is titled “Tax invoice” and shows your tax registration number, the tax rate and the tax amount separately from the price, so the buyer can reclaim the tax. Many countries also require a unique number, the date, the buyer’s details and a description of each item.

How is the tax calculated?

Tax = (subtotal − discount) × rate. It is rounded to the currency’s smallest unit (cents, fils, paisa) and shown on its own line above the total.

Is my invoice uploaded?

No. It is laid out and saved as a PDF by your own browser. Your details are kept only in this browser for your next invoice, and “Clear all” deletes them.

Can I use it for UAE VAT, UK VAT or Indian GST?

Yes. Set the currency, the tax name and rate (for example VAT 5%, VAT 20% or GST 18%) and your registration-number label (TRN, VAT No., GSTIN). Check your local rules for any extra fields they require.

Is there a watermark?

No. It is free, with no watermark, no sign-up and no limit.
