Remove Location from Photo: what it does

Most phones save the exact GPS position in every photo, accurate to a few metres. If you share the original file, anyone who receives it can see where it was taken: often your home, your workplace or your children’s school. Drop your photos here to check: each one shows whether it carries a location, the coordinates, and a link to see the spot on a map. Then download clean copies with the location and the rest of the hidden data removed. The photo itself is not re-compressed, so it looks exactly the same. You can also stop your phone from adding locations in the first place: on iPhone, Settings → Privacy → Location Services → Camera → Never; on Android, turn off location tags in the camera app’s settings.

    How to use it

    1. Drop one or more photos into the box, paste them, or tap to choose them from your phone.
    2. Read what each photo reveals: location (with a map link), device, dates, names, editing apps, Content Credentials and AI labels.
    3. Open “All fields” for the complete list, and keep or untick the colour profile and rotation.
    4. Download each clean copy, or all of them as one ZIP. The picture itself is not re-compressed.

    Tips

    • Selling something online from home? Remove the location before uploading product photos to small marketplaces and forums.
    • Sharing on iPhone: tap “Options” at the top of the share sheet and switch off “Location” for that share.
    • Old photos keep their location even after you turn the camera setting off. Clean them before sharing.
    • Screenshots normally have no location, but photos of screens taken with a camera do.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my photo has a location?

Drop it in the box. A red “Location” row means it has GPS coordinates; a green “No location found” means it doesn’t.

Is the location visible on Instagram or Facebook?

Those networks remove it from the copy other people see, but the original file still has it. Email, cloud links, websites and chat apps sending files as documents usually keep it.

Does the map link send my location anywhere?

Only if you click it: it opens OpenStreetMap at that spot. Checking and cleaning happen entirely in your browser, and nothing is uploaded.

Can I remove only the location and keep the camera details?

This tool removes all personal metadata at once, which is the safer default. The colour profile and rotation are kept so the photo looks the same.
