Instagram Grid Maker: what it does
A grid post (or puzzle feed) is one big picture cut into tiles that join up again on your Instagram profile. Since 2025 the profile grid shows every post as a 3:4 rectangle instead of a square, so the old square splitters no longer line up. This grid maker cuts your photo into 3:4 tiles of 1080 × 1440 pixels: according to Instagram’s Help Center, photos between 1.91:1 and 3:4 keep their resolution at 1080 pixels wide, so each tile shows whole in the feed and fills its spot on the grid exactly. Choose 3, 6, 9 or 12 posts, click the photo to pick which part becomes the grid, and download the tiles in a ZIP, numbered in the order to post them. The photo is cut by your own browser at full resolution: nothing is uploaded and there is no watermark.
How to use it
- Drop a photo into the box, paste it with Ctrl+V, or tap to choose one from your phone.
- Choose 3, 6, 9 or 12 posts, and click the photo to pick which part becomes the grid.
- Check the profile preview: the number on each tile is its posting order.
- Download the tiles as a ZIP (or “Save to phone”) and post them in number order, 01 first.
Tips
- Post the tiles in number order, one after another: 1 is the bottom-right tile and the last number is the top left. Every new post pushes the others one place along.
- Unpin your pinned posts first, or post the grid as a full set of rows: pinned posts sit at the top left and shift everything after them.
- Use a photo at least 3,240 pixels wide (3 × 1080) so each tile stays sharp. Most phone cameras take bigger photos than that.
- Keep faces and text away from the tile edges: Instagram’s thin white gaps run through them.
- Each tile also appears alone in your followers’ feeds, so give it a caption that makes sense on its own, such as “Part 3 of 9: see the full picture on my profile”.
Frequently asked questions
What size should Instagram grid tiles be?
1080 × 1440 pixels (3:4). Instagram’s profile grid shows each post as a 3:4 rectangle, and its Help Center says photos between 1.91:1 and 3:4 are kept at 1080 pixels wide. A 3:4 tile is therefore shown whole both in the feed and on the grid.
In what order do I post the tiles?
Bottom right first, top left last, because the newest post always appears at the top left. The ZIP numbers the files in that order: post 01 first, then 02, and so on.
Why doesn’t my old square grid line up any more?
Square grids were made for the old 1:1 profile grid. The 3:4 grid shows a taller, narrower part of each post, so the sides of square tiles are cut off and the picture no longer joins up. Cutting the picture into 3:4 tiles fixes it.
Will there be white lines between the tiles?
Yes, Instagram leaves a thin gap between posts on the grid. The tiles are cut edge to edge, so the picture carries on across the gap like a window frame.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Your browser cuts the photo on your device and builds the ZIP there too. Nothing is sent to our servers, and the page keeps working in airplane mode once it has loaded.
