Free Receipt Maker: what it does

Give your customers a proper receipt when they pay you. Add your business and the customer, list what they paid for, set the payment date and how they paid, and download a clean PDF receipt with your logo, the total paid and the amount written in words. It suits freelancers, tutors, landlords, small shops and anyone who takes payments by cash or bank transfer and needs to hand over proof of payment. Everything runs in your browser, so your customer details are never uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Fill in your business and your client. Add a logo if you like: it is read by your browser, not uploaded.
  2. Choose the document type, number, dates and currency, then add your line items, any discount and the tax rate. Totals update as you type.
  3. Open “Payment details, terms and notes” to add your bank details and terms, and pick an accent colour and font.
  4. Click “Download PDF” and choose “Save as PDF” in the print window. Your details are kept in this browser for the next invoice.

Tips

  • Use one receipt number per payment (RCT-0001, RCT-0002…) and keep a copy: it makes bookkeeping and your tax return much easier.
  • Say how the customer paid in the payment box, for example “Method: Cash” or “Method: Bank transfer”.
  • For a deposit or part payment, say so in the description (“Deposit, 50% of quote QT-0012”), so both of you can see what is still due.
  • If you are tax-registered, add your tax number and the tax rate so the receipt shows the tax you collected.
  • Click “Next invoice” after saving: it keeps your business details and moves the receipt number on by one.

Frequently asked questions

What should a receipt include?

Your business name and contact details, a unique receipt number, the date of payment, who paid, what was paid for, the amount (with any tax shown separately) and how it was paid. This tool has a place for each.

What is the difference between a receipt and an invoice?

An invoice asks for payment; a receipt confirms that a payment was received. Change “Document” to switch between them: the title and labels change, for example “Paid on” instead of “Payment due”.

Is my receipt uploaded?

No. The receipt is made and saved as a PDF by your own browser. Your details are kept only in this browser for next time, and “Clear all” deletes them.

Can I use it for any payment?

Use it for real payments that you or your business received. A receipt is a record of a genuine transaction; making receipts for payments that didn’t happen can be fraud.

Is there a watermark?

No. It is free, with no watermark, no sign-up and no limit.
