Free Invoice Generator: what it does

Fill in your business, your client and what you did, and get an invoice that looks like it came from an agency, not a spreadsheet: a clean masthead with your logo, invoice details and bill-to boxes, a line-item table, a clear “Total due” bar, the amount written in words, and your bank details with payment terms. Totals, tax and discounts are calculated for you. The same tool also makes tax invoices, proforma invoices, quotes, estimates and receipts. Everything runs in your browser, so your client list and prices are never uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Fill in your business and your client. Add a logo if you like: it is read by your browser, not uploaded.
  2. Choose the document type, number, dates and currency, then add your line items, any discount and the tax rate. Totals update as you type.
  3. Open “Payment details, terms and notes” to add your bank details and terms, and pick an accent colour and font.
  4. Click “Download PDF” and choose “Save as PDF” in the print window. Your details are kept in this browser for the next invoice.

Tips

  • Write each line item as what the client gets (“Website redesign: 6 pages”) and put the scope or period in the details line under it.
  • Use “Label: value” lines for payment details (IBAN: …, SWIFT: …). Bank numbers are set in a monospace font so they are easy to copy correctly.
  • Set your tax name to what your country uses (VAT, GST, Sales tax) and your tax-number label to match (VAT No., TRN, GSTIN, EIN).
  • Click “Next invoice” after saving: it keeps your business and bank details, clears the client and items, and moves the number on by one.
  • Ask for the invoice number as the payment reference, so you can match payments to invoices quickly.
  • If you’re VAT-registered, check your local rules for what a tax invoice must show (for example your tax number, the client’s and the tax amount).

Frequently asked questions

Is my invoice uploaded or stored on a server?

No. The invoice is laid out and saved as a PDF by your own browser. Your business details, client and prices never leave your device. They are saved only in this browser, so your next invoice is quicker, and “Clear all” deletes them.

Is it really free? Is there a watermark?

Yes, it is free, with no watermark, no sign-up and no limit on the number of invoices.

Why does a print window open?

That is how your browser saves a real PDF: the text stays sharp and selectable, fonts are embedded and the file is small. Choose “Save as PDF” as the destination.

Can I add VAT, GST or sales tax?

Yes. Type the tax name and the rate. The tool works out the tax on the subtotal after any discount and shows it on its own line above the total.

Which currencies are supported?

Over 20, including USD, EUR, GBP, AED, SAR, PKR, INR, CAD and AUD. Amounts use the right number of decimals for each currency, and the total is written out in words.

Can I make a quote or a receipt instead?

Yes. Change “Document” to Quote, Estimate, Proforma invoice, Tax invoice or Receipt. The title and the labels change to match (for example “Valid until” on a quote).

Can I make an invoice on my phone?

Yes. Fill in the form and tap Download PDF. On Android choose “Save as PDF” as the printer; on iPhone use the Share button in the print preview and “Save to Files”.
