The meter counts every request this page makes and the bytes each one sends. Downloads are this site’s code and fonts; AI tools also download their model in a background helper, which your browser’s developer tools (Network tab) show too. Check it there, or switch on airplane mode.

Remove Metadata from Video: what it does

A video straight from your phone carries more than the picture. iPhones save the exact spot where you pressed record, the model, the iOS version and the date with your time zone; Android phones save the location and the phone too; action cameras and drones can record a GPS log frame by frame, along with the camera’s serial number. Editing apps add their own details: CapCut, for example, stores its project data with the app, your computer’s system and IDs in every export. Drop your MP4 or MOV files here to see what each one says in plain language, with a map link for the location, then download a clean copy. The metadata is overwritten inside the file itself, so the picture and sound are copied byte for byte: no re-encoding, no quality loss, the same file size, and even a long 4K video is done in a second or two. Everything happens in your browser, so the videos never leave your device.

      How to use it

      1. Drop one or more MP4 or MOV videos into the box, or tap to choose them. Long 4K videos are fine.
      2. Read what each video reveals: location with a map link, phone or camera, software, dates and time zone, titles, editing-app data and GPS data tracks.
      3. Choose whether to keep the recording date and whether to remove data tracks. Open “All fields” for every value.
      4. Download each clean copy. Each copy is checked after cleaning, and the picture and sound are not re-encoded.

      Tips

      • Clean the video you are about to send, not an older copy: trimming or exporting it again in an app adds new metadata.
      • Sending a video by email, AirDrop, Google Drive or as a “document” in a chat app sends the original file, with everything in it. Clean it first.
      • To stop the location being saved at all: on iPhone, Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Camera → Never; on Android, open the Camera app’s settings and turn off location tags.
      • Action camera or drone footage? Keep “Remove data tracks” ticked: these hold the GPS route and speed of the whole recording, not just the starting point.
      • Tick “Keep the recording date” if you sort videos by date in a photo library; the location and device are still removed.

      Frequently asked questions

How do I remove metadata from a video?

Drop the video (MP4, MOV, M4V or 3GP) in the box above and download the clean copy. The location, phone or camera, software, dates, titles, cover data and app details are removed, and the picture and sound are copied unchanged.

Does a video contain my location?

Often, if it was filmed on a phone that lets the camera use location. iPhones and Android phones store the coordinates where the recording started; action cameras and drones can store a full GPS track. The tool shows it with a map link before you remove it.

      Will the video lose quality?

No. Nothing is re-encoded. The metadata is overwritten with blank space inside the file, so every frame and every sound sample stays exactly as it was and the file keeps the same size.

      What is removed exactly?

Everything in the file’s metadata areas: location, make and model, software version, recording and file dates, title, author, comments, cover picture, editing-app data, XMP, Live Photo IDs, camera makers’ data blocks and track names. With “Remove data tracks” ticked, timed GPS and sensor tracks are removed too. The rotation, colour information and subtitles stay, because they are part of how the video plays.

      Which formats work?

MP4, MOV (including iPhone HEVC videos), M4V and 3GP. WebM, MKV and AVI files can’t be cleaned here yet.

      Is my video uploaded?

No. It is read and cleaned by your browser on your device, and nothing is sent to our servers, which is also why a large video takes no time. You can check: once the page has loaded, switch on airplane mode and clean a video.
