TikTok Safe Zone Checker: what it does
TikTok puts the For You tabs at the top, your username, caption and sound at the bottom, and the like, comment, share and profile buttons down the right. This checker draws that on your own video, using TikTok’s In-Feed safe-zone template from its Ads Help Center, measured on a 1080 × 1920 frame: 120 px clear on each side, 240 px at the top, 660 px at the bottom, and the right-hand 300 px from 840 px down, where the buttons are. Drop a video or cover, scrub through it and make sure every subtitle, face, price and logo stays inside the dashed safe area. Download the preview, or a transparent overlay PNG to use as a guide layer in CapCut.
How to use it
- Drop your video or its cover image into the frame. Long 4K videos are fine: nothing is uploaded.
- Pick TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, or all three. The red areas are where the app’s caption, buttons and profile row sit.
- Scrub through the video and check that your text, faces, logo and price stay inside the dashed safe area.
- Download the preview to share it, or the transparent overlay PNG to use as a guide layer in CapCut, Canva or Premiere.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| TikTok | 240 px | 660 px | 120 / 120 px, plus the right-hand 300 px below 840 px (buttons) | Measured from TikTok’s In-Feed “Standard Version LTR” safe-zone template (720 × 1280, scaled to 1080 × 1920): 80 px sides, 160 px top, 440 px bottom, and the button column 720 px from the bottom. | Instagram Reels | 269 px | 672 px | 65 / 65 px | Meta’s Reels ad guide: “leaving at least 14% of the top, 35% of the bottom, and 6% on each side of your asset free from text, logos, or other important creative elements.” Meta Ads Guide: Instagram Reels |
| YouTube Shorts | 288 px | 672 px | 48 / 192 px | Measured from Google’s vertical video safe-zone overlay (1080 × 1920) linked from the Google Ads video specs page. Google Ads Help: About video ad specs |
Checked 5 November 2026. The platforms publish these for ads; normal posts have the same caption, buttons and profile row, so the same space is covered.
Tips
- TikTok’s right-hand buttons start about halfway down. Keep text in the left two-thirds of the lower half.
- TikTok’s safe area is larger with a one-line caption. Long captions push the text block higher, so write a short first line.
- Put on-screen text a little above the middle. It is the spot people look at first and nothing covers it.
- In CapCut, add the overlay with Overlay → Add overlay, stretch it to full screen, and delete it before exporting.
- For one edit on TikTok, Reels and Shorts, choose “All three”: it adds Shorts’ taller top bar and Reels’ deeper bottom area.
Frequently asked questions
What is TikTok’s safe zone size?
On a 1080 × 1920 video: keep 120 px clear on the left and right, 240 px at the top and 660 px at the bottom, and keep the right-hand 300 px clear below 840 px, where the buttons are. We measured it from TikTok’s In-Feed “Standard” template (720 × 1280, 80 / 160 / 440 px) and scaled it up.
Does the safe zone change with caption length?
Yes. TikTok’s own templates show the covered area growing as the caption gets longer (from one to four lines). The numbers here are for the standard version; keep extra room at the bottom if your caption is long.
What size should a TikTok video be?
1080 × 1920 (9:16). TikTok’s ad specs ask for at least 540 × 960 for vertical videos, and 1080 × 1920 looks sharp on every phone.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The video plays in your browser on your device; nothing is sent to our servers.
