About the Social Media Character Counter

Write a post once and check it against every platform’s limit at the same time. Each row shows whether your text fits, how many characters are left, and where the platform will cut it off behind “more”.

How to use it

  1. Type or paste your text into the box. Your draft stays in this browser only.
  2. Watch the count and the “left / over” figure update as you type.
  3. Check the table to see which other platforms the same text fits.
  4. Click “Copy text” and paste it into the app.

Tips

  • Put the hook in the first line. Instagram and Facebook show about 125 characters before “more”, LinkedIn about 210.
  • X counts links as 23 characters no matter how long they are, so you don’t need a link shortener to save space.
  • If a caption is too long for X but fine elsewhere, write a short X version instead of cutting mid-sentence.

Frequently asked questions

Do spaces and line breaks count?

Yes. Every platform counts spaces, line breaks and punctuation as characters, so the count here includes them too.

Do emojis count as one character?

On most platforms an emoji counts as one character, but some emojis are built from several code points. X counts every emoji as two. This tool counts emojis the way each platform does where that is documented.

Is my text saved or sent anywhere?

No. Counting happens in your browser. Your draft is kept only in this browser so it survives a refresh, and you can clear it any time.
